Job Description:
Air Traffic Services (AJT) provides safe, secure, and efficient management of the National Airspace System (NAS) and international airspace assigned to U.S. control. AJT is responsible for Airport Traffic Control Towers (Federal and Contract), Terminal Radar Approach Control facilities, Air Route Traffic Control Centers, and Combined Center Radar Approach Control facilities to guide aircraft through their various phases of flight.
Duties Help

Serves as a Team Manager for AJT-1000, Director of Strategic Operations. Applies advanced technical knowledge of air traffic operations and procedures, or safety interventions including their interrelatedness and functions, to oversee the process of standardizing air traffic control procedures throughout the NAS. Work usually includes a mixture of routine and complex projects/programs based on the objectives of Air Traffic Services. Oversees the development of procedures, integration of technology, and air traffic control separation and operational standards for the control of air traffic throughout the NAS to insure the safe, orderly, and expeditious movement along air routes and at airports. Responsible for coordinating and assuring resolution of issues for Terminal, EnRoute, and Federal Contract
Tower (FCT) facilities, and ensures consistent application of policy. Serves as Air Traffic Services primary interface with the associated Service Area and Service Center pertaining to air traffic control facility issues. Acquires and allocates resources to accomplish work activities within established schedules, as well as interface with officials of all levels to accomplish assigned tasks and objectives. Work is critical to the safety of the NAS and the flying public.

Utilizes program/project management principles to direct air traffic management projects, including identifying positions and establishing and overseeing financial, business and planning activities that support accident and event investigations. Defines, plans, and organizes assigned budget, staff, and other resources to accomplish objectives for the organization. Performs critical aspects of the budget planning process, including projecting short and long-term future needs and justifying resource requirements. Plans and communicates the teams vision and objectives, including setting priorities, assigning tasks and responsibilities, monitoring and evaluating performance, and coaching and developing employee capabilities. Approves leave and takes, recommends, or approves corrective/disciplinary actions, as appropriate. Utilizes coaching skills to train staff, to improve the workplace, and to engage in conflict
resolution.

Applies advanced technical knowledge of air traffic operations and procedures to direct staff in identifying and resolving highly complex problems that often cross organizational boundaries, including service areas and facilities. Applies leadership ability and an advanced technical knowledge of Air Traffic Services broad goals and objectives, and those of the ATO and corporate FAA to identify, define, and organize work for multiple work activities. Provides direction, guidance, and support for maintaining air traffic services throughout the NAS by interfacing with support organizations and industry groups. Serves as a national subject matter expert to provide input, as needed, for support organizations. Applies experience using traffic flow management automation tools and local/national communication processes to implement and integrate new equipment technologies into the NAS. Responsible for assigning personnel and resources to facility implementation teams to facilitate the integration of new and/or revised traffic management procedures.

Contacts are internal and external, to include NAS customers, peers, higher-level managers, other ATO organizations, and external lines of business on a day-to-day basis to interpret policies/procedures or for other project/program purposes related to standardization of air traffic control procedures, and to work collaboratively with Service Areas, other FAA lines of business, and the aviation industry. Represents air traffic operational interests effectively with other organizations. As an authority in air traffic management, provides guidance to both internal and external organizations to address diverse and complex issues which often cross multiple projects/ programs.

To qualify for this position at the K-band you must demonstrate in your application that you have experience as an air traffic controller in a military or civilian air traffic facility that demonstrated possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the level of work of the specialization for which application is made. This experience must have provided a comprehensive knowledge of appropriate air traffic control laws, rules and regulations. Creditable experience must have equipped applicants with the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the full range of duties of the position for which application is being made.

To qualify for this position, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-J/ FG/GS-14. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience is: Experience using management automation tools and local/national communication processes to integrate new equipment technologies into the National Airspace System.
